Most are continuing to count down the days to see what has proven to be a truly testing year come to an end. Although having started to get to grips with his struggles, Lewis is now aiming to end on a high by starring at the very same venue in which he grabbed the attention of even the most casual of darts fans across Wales just three years ago.
Lewis defeated Kenny Neyens in the preliminary round before earning victory against fellow Welshman Jonny Clayton , current world champion Peter Wright, James Richardson and Darren Webster to reach the semi-finals of the World Darts Championship.
His sensational run was finally brought to an end by Phil Taylor - the greatest player the game has ever seen. The Power secured a win over Lewis before going on to lift the title for a record 16th time to bow out of the sport in a blaze of glory, although the Welshman averaged just two points fewer than Taylor in that last four encounter.
The going has certainly proven to be tough since then, although Lewis recently qualified for the latest global showpiece by coming through Monday's Tour Card Holder Qualifiers event - along with fellow Welshman Nick Kenny - in dramatic fashion at Coventry's Ricoh Arena.
And while there will only be a limited number of fans present owing to the coronavirus pandemic, Lewis admits qualifying for the Alexandra Palace event was the best Christmas present he could have hoped for after what's proven to be a torturous year.
I know we're not going to have a big crowd there, maybe we'll get a little bit of a crowd, but I just really enjoy playing on a big stage," he added.
Lewis will take on Luke Woodhouse in the first round of the competition, with the winner of that contest earning a second round clash with recent World Cup winner and world number three Gerwyn Price.
